Another in a not-so-regular series of posts highlighting nature's nature & 'ain't that odd'
Have you heard? There has been a mass migration into the Galapagos Islands that is having the single biggest change impact in millions of years. According to some published reports, the local government is building, adding, and making stuff on and around the islands to make it convenient for eco-tourists (money!) to come and see the friendly animals.
Airports, pollution, scaring the landscape, rapidly changing the natural environment and "passively interfering with the animal behaviors" is happening to what many consider pristine and 'not to be interfered with' natural place.
Would it be more beneficial to implement a different economic model? Make it similar to conservation easements or development rights -- on an annual basis the world provides an operating 'trust fund' for the local government. Tourist migrations not allowed?
