Global Warming Anxiety Syndrome (GWAS) -- A Perspective of Hope

Hope is a natural state of mind.

In an earlier posting, I mentioned the brand new "disease" sweeping America and the world -- it is called "global warming anxiety syndrome (GWAS)". People are inundated by news hype, some what warped reporting, and definitely not balanced. Individuals lose hope from hearing all the doomsday perspective. They hear they are going to die and die fast because of warming. Imagine if every day you woke up and told your child that. Of course they would be wracked with anxiety. I believe that is what the news, and yes many of the 'motherhood and apple pie' green organizations are doing with our emotions. You gotta take it with a grain of salt and you must use your own intellect to filter the airnews!

While the warming is real, is or maybe accelerated by human activity, there are some perspectives to consider. Humans are animals and are a part of nature, just like dinosaurs were. Other animals may have accelerated warming too. So have blasts from space and volcanos. My point is nature is nature, we are a part of it, not the master of it. Nor should we be.

First, we have been in the most favorable climate period ever for homo sapiens. We are between ice ages, geologically speaking. Dinosaurs had their prime day too. We may perish in the bigger scheme of nature and forces out in space. That is natural and don't spend alot of brain power worrying about it.

Second, there is just a wrath of new innovative people out there coming up with some interesting and compelling technology to help us lower our rate of deterioration. There is a wealth of 'free energy' available to us. Let's hope for these to come faster:

  • Nuclear is being re-evaluated as a green way to generate power. While remaining controversial, on a worldwide basis it has proven safe and can be up and running quickly to offset our fossil fuel consumption.
  • Konarka in Massachusetts is printing, via "ink" a solar ribbon printed similar to a paper mill. They can create miles of this ribbon.
  • There is a gentleman in Chicago who has a DNA helical shaped wind mini turbine. Aerotechture can place these artistic-looking windmills on top of city buildings and are efficient. And, no matter how fast or from what direction the wind comes from, it still performs. Wind farms have serious limitations in regard to wind direction changes as well as wind velocity. My money is on this one -- it is super practical. It does not hurt birds either.
  • Ocean power. The Nordic countries have determined that just the ocean movement can generate power. Not a turbine like others, it just moves and generates. Florida Atlantic University has a massive ocean turbine generating concept with 'airplane-like' foils with props. The Gulf stream is one of the strongest and most predictable energy flows in the world and it is 'free'.
  • Geothermal is a wonderful, clean non-polluting source of steam. It is also relatively fast to get started. California geothermal firms collectively produce 40% of the worlds geothermal production. Check out what is happening in California Geothermal.
  • Solar collectors -- remember those magnifying glasses you played with as a kid to start newspaper on fire. Same idea, but a couple acres of mirrors are used to focus beams onto a solar tower (furnace) that generates steam. Spain is the fourth largest producer of solar power. Seville Spain has installed a massive solar collector system designed by Solucar

The more we think positive, have a vision for solution, be part of nature and have these type of creative visionary individuals we have hope

Feel the ocean waves, warmth of the sun, the fresh wind in our faces and soothing bath of the geothermal hot springs.

Hope is in your mind - not in the news -- naturally!
