Opening Welcome - Sustainable Conservation

Curious about our new Experiential Conservation -- check us out at Landicity

We all willingly give to conservation, land trusts, wildlife and other nature conservation organizations. Ask most people if they support similar organizations and they quickly respond in a positive and "of course I support nature organizations!"

Corporations and individuals have personally benefited from putting tracts of land in conservation easement. You and I pay for these easements through donations to the easement holding organization as well as through tax incentives paid to individuals and companies. When you contribute, please ask to see the actual terms of the conservation easement as well as the ongoing operational plan. Why?

There are many easements that essentially maintain the land as it was, for just the benefit of the land owners. They can create a tax vehicle that superfically gives the perception of a 'public benefit'. While the landowner rights still remain the same, the public can not access, use, fish, walk, hunt, bird watch on many pieces of land. But the landowner can and so can all his invited guests.

We need to contribute to conservation organizations but many are self serving, managed by a small group of directors for their own agenda. Just like other non-profits that were wholly improved when questioned about their actual business practices and methods. It is now time to "aggregate" the many different organizations into effecient open and transparent organizations. We the people need to insure some of these organizations become extinct while others learn how to become sustainably managed.
